“Listening is an art that requires attention over talent, spirit over ego, others over self.”
- Dean Jackson
“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.”
-Winston Churchill
I would like to have a discussion about the power of listening. Not hearing, LISTENING.
In a highly electronic and often impersonal world, this is a lost art yet it is a very valuable tool that we all have the ability to possess. I originally was going to take a completely different view of this topic but taking into account the current world situation, right now listening is something we should all exercise. I do not want this to be a negative discussion but rather a discussion where we take a moment and pause. There is a great deal of information out there regarding COVID-19 and it is VERY important to LISTEN to this information and use it wisely. I understand no one wants to be quarantined or isolated but right now, the big picture needs to be seen. If not to protect yourself, think of all of your friends and loved ones. I don’t know about you, but I would be heartbroken if I were to be the one who passes along the virus to one of them and they became very ill or worse. I would not want to do that to ANYONE and I think at this time, this is how we all need to think. It is time to be selfless versus selfish. It is time to step up and do the right thing. Step up and help your fellow human beings. Be aware of those who are vulnerable and offer a hand. Pay attention. Be responsible. Be smart.
Take a moment to help a neighbor who is unable to get to the store. Facetime or Skype with your family and friends to keep up morale. Give a thank you – you would be surprised how these simple words can go a very long way – to those on the front lines from medical professionals to those manning the grocery stores and your local eateries. I, myself, can never fully express my appreciation of all of their dedicated work.
Thank you and everyone please stay healthy and safe!
