OrthoRI ACL Injury Prevention Program for the High School Athlete

ACL injuries are very prevalent in high school athletics. Each year 20,000 to 80,000 female high school athletes suffer from an ACL injury while participating in a sporting activity. Females are 5 times more likely to sprain, tear or rupture their ACL compared to their male counterparts. As a result, ACL prevention programs are a valuable tool for reducing the risks associated with ACL injury. According to a systematic review conducted by Yu-Lun, et al., it was concluded that ACL IPP (Injury Prevention Program) have a significant protective effect to help reduce the risk of injury by 53%. With that being said, it is important that OrthoRI becomes involved in reaching…..

Indoor Gardening

Fall is here and it is the time of year that many reluctantly make the transition from spending hours outdoors in the yard and garden to spending more time within the home. A Brazilian study revealed that those who needed assistance (including using your own hands for support) with getting down and back up from the floor were almost seven times more likely to die within six years than those who could perform this task independently.

Try it yourself. The test is…

Gardening

Summer is here! Flowers are budding, grass is growing and one of the most popular activities
during this time of year is gardening. Getting outside and digging in the dirt can be revitalizing to
the spirit and rewarding beyond words. However, being outside for hours on end digging,
bending, lifting and sweating can be taxing on our muscles and joints. As we continue to help
our gardens grow, as an Occupational Therapist, I want to share some helpful …..
