For Orthopedic Appointments

Scheduling Your Appointment

  • Please have your insurance information available when you call to schedule. 
  • We will obtain as much information as possible to verify your coverage before your visit, to properly advise you on our billing process.

After Your Appointment Is Scheduled - Activate Your Portal

Ortho Rhode Island has transitioned to a new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system called Modernizing Medicine. This new system allows you to access your health information, communicate with our care team, pay your bill, and more. To ensure as smooth a transition as possible, we encourage you to set up your Patient Portal and download our APPatient app.

  • To get started, you will receive an email about your Orthopedic Patient Porta from: welcome@practicemailer.com
    • Please note: If you have not received an email to set up your Orthopedic Patient Portal, please call our office at (401) 777-7000, and we will help you activate your account.
  • The email will include your login credentials:
    • Username: the email you've provided to Ortho Rhode Island
    • Practice URL: ons.ema.md
  • Click the Activate Account link to access your Patient Portal in a Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser and set up your password. This link will only be active for 72 hours.

Download APPatient

Please download APPatient on your smartphone utilizing the applicable link below.

  • Apple device: Download on the App Store (link)
  • Android device: Get it on Google Play (link)

When logging into APPatient, you will need:

  • Username: the email you've provided to Ortho Rhode Island
  • Password: If you have already accessed your Patient Portal, please utilize the same password. If you have not already accessed your portal, please create your password.
  • Practice URL: ons.ema.md

Complete Patient Intake Forms Within Your Patient Portal

  • To make check-in easier on your appointment day, please download APPatient and complete your patient intake forms. You will receive a text reminder to confirm your appointment and fill out your forms.
  • If your insurance coverage is an HMO plan, a referral from your primary care physician (PCP) is required. Please call your PCP or our office if you are not sure.

First Appointment Checklist:

  • Picture ID, such as a valid driver's license
  • Insurance cards (primary and secondary)
  • Insurance co-payment
  • Referral from your Primary Care Physician, if needed
  • Any X-rays, MRI reports, etc. related to your current orthopedic condition

For MRI Appointments

After Your MRI Exam Has Been Scheduled

  • Please call our office as soon as possible for a complete screening.
  • We will review screening information during your phone interview and when you arrive for your MRI.
  • Some people cannot undergo an MRI exam or may need special preparation. It is important to inform us if you have any of the following:
    • A cardiac pacemaker or implanted cardiac defibrillator
    • A prosthetic heart valve
    • A history of previous brain aneurysm surgery
    • A history of a metallic fragment injury to the eye
    • A history of a shrapnel wound
    • Any implanted metallic devices. For example: prostheses, limb replacements, Harrington Rods, drug infusion pumps, IUD's, neurostimulators, ear implants, and some eye implants
  • In some cases, a family member is welcome to stay in the room with you during the scan. However, he or she will need to undergo our screening process.

Preparing For Your Visit

  • For most MRI exams you may eat, drink, and take any prescription medications as usual. We will advise you if your exam requires different preparation.
  • Please bring any related studies such as CAT scans, outside x-rays, or any other MRIs.
  • Please arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled exam so that we may take additional information and answer your questions.
  • Please leave your valuables at home. No metallic items such as jewelry, watches, keys, etc. can be brought into the MRI exam area.
  • When you arrive for your MRI, please check in with the front desk specialist.
  • You may resume normal activities immediately following your scan.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please contact us at least 24 hours ahead, so your appointment time can be allocated to another patient seeking treatment.

We value your time, and make every effort to run on schedule. Emergencies may occur that cause delays beyond our control. We apologize in advance if you are kept waiting or have to reschedule your appointment. To avoid any inconvenience, please ensure our office has both your home and business phone numbers.
